The HUHS Scholarship Foundation application will open on December 2, 2024.
HUHS Scholarship Foundation has more than $70,000 to award to students whether you are headed to college or you're ready to start work in the trades. Some of these scholarships can cover the cost of everything from campus parking to construction power tools.
Here's what you need to do to be considered:
1. Complete the application form.
2. Provide a minimum of three Student Rating Forms. Much like asking for a letter of recommendation, you can send these forms to teachers and coaches and ask them to fill them out on your behalf. However, the third form must be completed by someone outside of the high school like your employer or another adult who can speak to your work-ethic and character. They may choose to accompany the rating form with a formal letter of recommendation as well but it's not required.
Smart tip: Best to provide this link or print the pdf for each person completing the rating form for you no later than January 20, 2025 so you won't miss the deadline.
Since all forms are confidential, ask the person filling it out for you to return the form directly to Ms. Trapp in District Office or send to her email.
- You will receive an email when your letter is received.
- If you have not received an email confirming receipt of your rating form, please follow up with the person rating you prior to the deadline.
3) Finally, make sure you and your parent have signed and uploaded this Parent Release of Information form to your application.
Read all directions and the application very carefully.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Google forms will save your response for 30 days so you don't have to complete the application in one setting. Auto save will not work offline.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many scholarships are awarded?
The number and size of the scholarships depend on the foundation's income. As donations increase, more scholarships become available.
What types of scholarships are available?
There are two types: endowed and general scholarships. An endowed scholarship requires a minimum endowment of $20,000, where the donor sets the name and recipient criteria. General scholarships depend on donations to the general fund. The HUHS Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors selects the recipients based on their standard selection criteria.
Who serves on the HUHS Scholarship Committee?
The committee comprises 9-13 members serving three-year terms, except for the District Administrator, who is a permanent member. Committee members are individuals who live in the Hartford Union High School District, though exceptions can be made. The board makes efforts to include members from diverse backgrounds and locations within the district.
What is the HUHS Scholarship Foundation?
The HUHS Scholarship Foundation is a charitable organization formed by local citizens and business people. It provides scholarships and financial aid to deserving graduates of Hartford Union High School for their post-high school education. The foundation is tax-exempt under Sec. 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, so donations made to it are fully tax-deductible.
When was the HUHS Scholarship Foundation established?
The foundation was originally formed as the B.E.S.T. Trust, an outgrowth of a scholarship trust established by Florence Place. Seeing the need for more scholarships, the committee expanded its activities and adopted new Articles of Organization in December 1989. In 2015, the name was changed to the HUHS Scholarship Foundation, with structural changes primarily for internal organization.
What has the scholarship committee done since its formation?
The committee established the philosophies and goals of the scholarship program and decided on the size and type of scholarships. A feasibility study was conducted, and based on positive feedback, fundraising efforts began. As donations grew, the committee was able to award scholarships starting in 1993.
