Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement
The Hartford Union High School District requires all students to demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge and skills of personal financial literacy in order to receive a high school diploma. The financial literacy graduation requirement is intended to ensure all students have acquired the basic competencies necessary for making informed financial decisions in life after high school. Financial literacy proficiency is a Board of Education approved graduation requirement and is tied to our Focus on Careers course that students take as a Junior. After completing the course, students attend a reality-check day where they simulate their lives 10-years from now based on career choice, family make-up, and other spending decisions. After participating in the event, the financial literacy graduation requirement is then met by completing a reflection about their financial decisions and the effects these decisions have on their future.
