KMYA is a program for high school students to construct, maintain, and fly an RV-12is aircraft.
This program is made possible by the generosity of a group of local aviation enthusiasts who believe this experience will open students to STEM career options, help them develop confidence and discipline, and prepare them to be the future LEADERS for their generation. Through the program, students will be mentored in vocational and life skills including: Metal Fabrication
- Avionics Reciprocating engines
- Reading technical drawings Teamwork
- Leadership Speaking/Presentations
- Flying and working toward your pilot’s license
WHO:
KMYA is open to all High School age students. Twelve to fifteen participants will be chosen through an application and interview process this summer.
Students must be willing to commit to the program for the full year and attend all build sessions and special events without unexcused absences. Provisions may be made for academic/sports conflicts. There are no fees for the program but fundraising will be expected.
WHEN:
Beginning in Fall 2020.
We will meet twice weekly on Sunday and Monday evenings from 5-8 PM at Hartford Union HS.
The schedule may vary for holidays and vacations and will have additional events/field trips (ex. AirVenture at Oshkosh) throughout the year.
WHERE:
We will meet in room 174A at Hartford Union High School
HOW:
Students and parents must attend one of the two informational sessions scheduled for July 8 and 13 at 7 PM at Hartford Municipal Airport.
Students will complete a formal written application online, via the HUHS Aviation Club website, provide one teacher and one other non-family member recommendation, and attend an interview with the KMYA Board.
