Team 1091 was started in 2002-03 by a TAP communications teacher. A student got her interested in the FIRST Robotics program. Since then, we have competed in 9 FIRST Robotics Challenges with the aid of mentors in various fields, such as tool and die, design and engineering, and programming. Although the team has been through many struggles, we always overcome the challenges through hard work and working together as a team. We have been known as a "Never Say Die" team by some of the past chairman's judges. Our proud team has several alumni that have gone into different engineering fields, such as Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Game Design, Agriculture, Automotive, T.V. and Video Production, and even The Armed Forces. The schools that many alumni of team 1091 attend are MSOE, UW Platteville, UW Madison, UW Oshkosh, Purdue University, Alverno College, and Michigan Tech. Also, several former students have returned to the team to mentor.
We are very proud of one of our alumni that has gone on to become the vice president of the Purdue FIRST Team, displaying the "Gracious Professionalism" that FIRST is all about. Not only do we compete in FRC events, but we have been reaching out into the community, to interest young minds and get them involved with FIRST. We have started two FLL (FIRST Lego League) teams, called Oriole Lite and Erin Energy Force, at Erin School in 2010 and help mentor the teams. Also, there are three junior FLL teams ranging from Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Team 1091 has been competing for 9 years, and plan to continue for years to come. We hope that we continue to inspire young students, encouraging them to join the HUHS Robotics Team 1091 when they enter high school. With our cooperative skills, broad talents, and innovative minds team 1091 will continue to expand.
