Department |
The primary goal of the school counseling program is to support and enhance student achievement and accomplishment. School counselors consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to assist students to be successful academically, vocationally and personally. |
Counselors work with outside agencies when appropriate.
Parents, as well as students, are encouraged to confer with the
counselors as they wish. Schedule an appointment or call
262-670-3200. Except for emergencies, students are reminded
that they should have a pre-arranged appointment with a counselor to
avoid missing classroom instruction.

CA$H
(Content Area Study Help) |
Delores Rettler (ext. 238 or 258)
CA$H is a Title I Tutoring Program for students who are in danger of
failing one or more required classes. CA$H provides intensive
tutoring from teachers and paraprofessionals. CA$H meets in Room
103 every period each day Monday through Thursday. Students come
to the CA$H room two or more times per week during their study hall
period to receive additional academic help. Another component of
CA$H is the Adolescent Dropout Prevention Team (ADOPT), which pairs
students with staff mentors. Interested students can obtain
further information about the CA$H Program by contacting their
counselor,
teacher, or coming into the CA$ Room to fill out the necessary forms
with Mrs. Rettler, any time during the school day. |
Health
Services |
Kim Thomas (ext. 203)
Ms. Thomas, a health technician, is available throughout the school
day to help students in case of an accident or illness. Her office is
located in the attendance office.
If a student feels ill or injures himself/herself, the student must
report to the attendance office. First aid supplies are available there
for emergencies. When necessary, parents are called and arrangements are
made to get the student home. Students are reminded: DO NOT
LEAVE THE BUILDING WITHOUT A PERMIT TO LEAVE. In case of illness or
injury, we want the parent/guardian of the students to be aware of the
situation so that they can advise the school of the appropriate course
of action.
Hartford Union High School reserves the right to initiate emergency
health care procedures for all students on fields trips for classes,
co-curricular activities or when parents/guardians are not available. |
School-Within-A-School |
Delores Rettler (ext. 258)
School-Within-A-School (SWS) is designed to provide a unique,
alternative learning experience for students who have not met with
success in the traditional high school program. Students are
encouraged to "Get Realistic About a Diploma" (GRAD).
The GRAD-SWS attempts to assess each student's strengths, weaknesses,
interest, and learning styles. GRAD seeks to provide an integrated
experiential learning approach to accommodate these specific
needs. Students are involved in modified instructional activities
aimed at preparing them for the world of work. Coordination with
school, parents, and community agencies assist to make connections with
academics in the classroom and to apply these skills in making future
plans for school and work. |

Notice of Child Find Activity |
Teresa Redmond (ext. 222)
The school district must locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities, including children with disabilities attending private schools in the school district, regardless of the severity of their disabilities. The school district has a special education screening program to locate and screen all children with suspected disabilities who have not graduated from high school. Upon request the school district will screen a child who has not graduated high school to determine whether a special education referral is appropriate. A request may be made by contacting Teresa Redmond, Supervisor of Pupil Services/Special Education, Hartford Union High School District, at 262-670-3200 x223, or by writing her at 805 Cedar Street, Hartford, WI 53027.
A physician, nurse, psychologist, social worker or administrator of a social agency who reasonably believes a child brought to him or her for services is a child with a disability has a legal duty to report the child to the school district in which the child resides. If the child attends a private school in another school district, the child should be reported to the school district where the child attends school. Before referring the child, the person making the referral must inform the child's parent that the referral will be made. The referral must be in writing and include the reason why the person believes the child is a child with a disability. Others who reasonably believe a child is a child with a disability may also refer the child. A referral for Hartford Union High School District may be sent to Teresa Redmond at the school district address above.
