| On Thursday, November 6, the HUHS Orchestra
participated in the Marquette University Orchestra Festival.

Solo/ Ensemble results: HUHS had 120 entries
perform at the state solo/ ensemble festival at UW-Whitewater.
Hartford earned 82 first place, 35 second place, and 3 third place
awards. Melanie Ptak, Kyle Welleman, Sonja Hughes, and Megan
VanHandel all earned first place for their string solos. Mike Wald's
duet received a first. Katie Krill, Melissa Schultz, Mike Wald, Curt
Hansen, and Mike Wald received second place on their solos. Megan
VanHandel's duet and the string quartet both received a second.

Orchestra concert - Friday, March 18, 2005 at the Schauer Arts
Center. The orchestra will perform along with the three jazz
bands. Admission of $3.00 will be charged at the door. This is a new concert format. We hope you will enjoy it! |

Society Banquet on Wednesday, October. |

| Fall Pops concert: 7:30 pm Wednesday, October 20in
the old gym at the high school. Admission is $2.00. The HUHS
choirs will also perform at the concert. Come to enjoy an evening of
light music. |
Spring Orchestra concert: The final
concert of the year will be held on Wednesday, May 18 at 7:00 pm. at the
high school. |
| District Solo/ Ensemble Festival
Solo/ Ensemble - district festival at Hartford - Sat. March 12,
2005: Hartford High School entered 295 events in the district solo/
ensemble festival which includes all band, orchestra, vocal, and piano
events. The results of the festival included 106 events qualifying
for the state festival on April 30 at UW-Whitewater. This is very
similar to the number of events that qualified last year.
Other results include:
- 106 Class A *1 state qualifiers (12 in orchestra)
- 52 Class A first place (6 in orchestra)
- 53 Class A second place (6 in orchestra)
- 1 Class A third place
-49 Class B first place (1 in orchestra)
- 24 Class B second place (1 in orchestra)
- 3 Class B third place (none in orchestra)
- 6 Class C first place and one each Class C second and third place.
(none in orchestra)
THANK YOU TO ALL PARENTS and VOLUNTEERS that helped out to make the day
run smoothly!

Solo/Ensemble Fees
2004-2005
Beginning this year students wishing to participate in individual
solo/ensemble events will be required to pay their own entry fees.
Events designated as special events (jazz, madrigals, string choir,
pops strings, vocal jazz) will continue to be paid for by the school.
Fees are as follows:
District
- Class A Solos $6
- Class B/C Solos $5
- Ensembles $9
District fees are due when you register your solo or ensemble and are
not refundable.
Medals are available for those who want them at a cost of $3.50 each.
This cost includes shipping. District medal fees are also to be paid when
you register your event. The purchase of medals is optional.
Students will continue to be responsible for the cost of solo/ensemble
music and judges copies.

Students who qualify for state will need to fill out a state
registration form and return it with the appropriate entry fee and
optional medal fee to Mrs. Malloy no later than 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday,
March 16th
in order to be entered in the state solo/ensemble festival at
Whitewater on Saturday, April 30th.
The school will not be providing transportation to the
state solo/ensemble festival.
State Fees are:
- Solos $12
- Ensembles $14
Optional State Medals cost $4.00 including shipping.

Point Cello Day workshop on Sunday, February 10, 2002. Here are a few

Crystal Plohman, recording artist from Nashville, representing
Knilling instruments came to our class for a brief clinic on Thursday,
March 7. She was a great performer and teacher. We learned
about violin fiddling, and had some fun!
