Background

The Math Team is a co-curricular activity available to all students in honors math courses.  Ten events are sponsored each year in two separate competitions.  Students may attend as many or as few events as they desire.

One competition is the Wisconsin Mathematics League sponsored by Beloit College.  Students take six 6-question tests after school, and students have 30 minutes to complete each test.  The top 5 scores are submitted as a team score to Beloit College.  Hartford competes regionally against 7 other schools (Beaver Dam, Mayville, Portage, Wayland Academy, West Bend East, West Bend West, and Wisconsin Dells) as well as all the high schools in Wisconsin.  At the end of the year, certificates are awarded to the top cumulative scoring student in each grade level at the high school.  In addition, the top scoring school in each region and the top scoring school in the state receive a plaque.

The other competition is a league of 9 area high schools: Hartford, Hartland Arrowhead, Kettle Moraine, Menomonee Falls, Oconomowoc, Watertown, West Allis Nathan Hale, Whitnall, and Wisconsin Lutheran.  Four meets are held each year at host schools.  Students are placed in teams of 8 and compete at either the Junior Varsity or the Varsity level.  Three individual tests and one team test are taken.  Medals and certificates are awarded to the top individual students at each level, and trophies are given to the top two teams at each level.
