- Identify the publisher and possible publication agendas. (news source, scholarly journal, political/social slants).
- Identify any individuals (scientists, politicians, etc.) who are quoted or referred to in the article as experts. Other key players as well.

- Describe how the author defines the issue/development.
- Identify the main themes and concepts presented.

- Identify information that could be disputed, gaps the authors knowledge.
- Identify what new knowledge you believe you or the public needs to better understand the issue/development.
