ABC-Clio Social Studies Databases
This set of databases focuses on developing critical thinking skills in social studies. They offers both primary and secondary resources for students across a wide range of topics and media formats. Teacher tools include: Research List Generator (to guide your students) and textbook correlations. We will be subscribing to the following three databases during 2008-2009 due to expressed interest. Others may be added as needs indicate. Remote and teacher's login and passwords are available in the LMC, or email Mrs. Cowell.

CountryWatch
An an almanac on steroids, this database not only covers the general facts related to every country (and some disputed dominions), but also provides daily news feeds (from the each country's own news service!) and a powerful data comparison tool. Students will be introduced to this in 9th grade World Cultures classes, but the resource applies across the social studies (and, in fact, the school's) curriculum.

Credo Reference NEW for 2008-2009
This resource features featuring full text, visuals, audio files, and animations from over 262 respected reference books. This is a whole library online! Easier to navigate and with richer content, this replaces Oxford Resources Online.

CultureGrams
More than an almanac, this resources offers data, maps, recipes, and images as well as political, historical, and cultural descriptions related to all the worlds countries (and the U.S. states). From Proquest

eLibrary Curriculum Edition (includes History Study Center)
One of the largest collections of periodical and digital media content designed and selected specifically for K-12 students. Because of it's friendly interface and readability features, our ninth grade students will be oriented to and encouraged to use this resource across the curriculum.

The Historical New York Times will be replaced with the Historical Chigaco Times (address to come). This will offer students more access to the news that has shaped both the nation and our region from a broader period of time. Access Newspapers (through Badgerlink) will continue to offer access to articles from newspapers across the country.

Points of View NEW for 2008-2009

World Conflicts Today
Highlights the current world "hotspots," offering insight in to the historical perspectives of key players, as well as implications for the people impacted by the conflict.

On Order for 2008-2009

Average age of non-fiction and reference resource in the LMC was 1978 for Geography & History and 1984 for other Social Sciences. 2007-2008 orders boosted these dates to 1983 for Geography & History and 1988 for other Social Science. During the 2008-2009 school year, the collections development cycle will focus on continuing to update our social studies resources in order to provide globally relevant and current information to HUHS students.Titles below, along with a significant number of "issues" titles are included in summer order.
