The Art of Persuasion

Before you start, find a topic that is...

CONCERNING What concerns YOU? If you feel strongly about an issue, it will show in your paper or presentation.
CAUTIOUS Be careful when selecting topics you (or your audience) feel so strongly about that you are blind to the other side.
CONTROVERSIAL If you choose a topic everyone already agrees with, who's left to persuade?
CONTEMPORARY Pick something that hasn't been "done to death" to keep your audience engaged.Choose a topic that is current enough to have up-to-date research and recent examples.
CONNECTED Pick an issue that allows you to connect with and persuade people in your own school.
CLEAR Narrow your topic enough to allow you to suggest specific steps towards change.
