What is Transition?
In the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, 1997 (IDEA) transition services are defined as, "a coordinated set of activities that focuses on outcomes that promotes a student's movement from school to post-school activities, including postsecondary education, vocational training, integrated employment ( including supported employment), continuing and adult education, adult services, independent living, or community participation and if appropriate living skills and /or a functional vocatinal evaluation." These services are to be based on the student's needs, taking into account the student's preferences and interests. (IDEA 34CFR&300.29)
