November the VFW,
American Legion and the
Vietnam Veterans were
contracted to see if they would be willing to participate in the
project. |

Next
Sarrah Oliver's speech students learned about interview techniques
and developed the questions to be included in the interview.

Students selected were given a veteran to schedule an interview.

Interviews were conducted on
February 25 and 27. Veterans were greeted in the lobby and
escorted to the library where they were introduced to the student
or students who would be interviewing them.

Many shared pictures and memorabilia with the students. |

Carol Grant-Stevens (assisted by her
husband Charlie) took photos of each of the veterans participating
in the project.

Sarrah's students then transcribed
the interviews and passed them along to Lisa Olson's Publishing
and Design Students who turned the scripts into booklets.

The pictures and booklets were
displayed during the following events:

The photos were on display in the
showcases downtown Hartford for the 4th of July and at the high
school for the Veteran's Day program on November 11th. The
permanment display can be requested for display in the community. |

The individual booklets were then
brought together in a composite book developed by Sue Hoefs, with
assistance from Gloria Schlee.

Donna Behn and Paul Zwack, with the
assistance of Dan Hummel, produced a video tape of the project
which aired on the local cable station. The video also won a
public relations award from the Wisconsin School Public Relations
Association.
