2004 WIAA State Tournament -2nd
Place
For the second time in two years the Orioles were
a force at the WIAA State Individual Tournament. Hartford was
second with 7 qualifiers behind Wisconsin Rapids going into the
tournament. When the dust had settled after a Division 1 race
where fourteen different schools crowned a champion, Hartford had
finished second to Wisconsin Rapids and ahead of Hartland
Arrowhead. The Orioles got points from six wrestlers, below is a
recap of the individuals who scored points in another great state
effort. |
Cody Zimmerman
The Oriole sophomore finished 5th and closed out the year with a 37-3
record. Cody stands at 72-6 in his career after two years. |
 |
 |
Craig Becker
The number one rated Becker went 2-2 in the tournament and finished with
a 37-3. The Oriole junior brings a 116-11 career mark into his
senior year. He is a two-time state placewinner. |
Matt Bourgeois
The senior captain notched an overtime win over Wisconsin Rapids in the
opening round. He ran into the state champion in the
quarterfinals. Matt finished 28-13 after winning his first
championship of the year beating three state qualifiers in the
sectional. |
 |
 |
Ryan Abbott
The senior ace was untouchable in the tournament as he notched two
falls, a tech fall and a major decision by way of six takedowns in the
finals against Wisconsin Little Ten conference foe, Ryan Higgins from
Oconomowoc. Abbot finishes 40-2 and 142-15 for his career.
He has placed in the state tournament all three years he qualified. |
Jon Schmidt
The Oriole junior went 3-2 on his way to a 6th place finish in the
tournament. Schmidt finishes 39-5 on the year and brings a 76-25
career mark into his senior year. |
 |
 |
Pete Hauser
Hauser notched fall number 28 in the preliminaries in his first state
appearance. The Oriole senior pinned his way through the
sectionals and finished with a 30-15 record. |
|
| |
|
| |
2005 WIAA
State Tournament Champions
For the third time in four years the Orioles were
a force at the WIAA State Individual Tournament. Hartford finished
9 points ahead of Wisconsin Radpids and 24 ahead of third
place Hartland Arrowhead. Hartford was paced by four state
finalists, the fist time in our wrestling history that such a feat
occurred. Hartford had a 13-5 record in the tournament with four
falls and five major decisons. The Orioles got points from four wrestlers, below is a
recap of the individuals who scored points in another great state
effort. |
Cody Zimmerman
2nd Place
The Oriole junior was rock solid all weekend on his way to the
final against 3x state champion Josh Hansen of Rapids. Cody had
two majors and a fall heading into the championship match. Hanson
scored four points in the final period, to earn the title with a 4-0
decision. Cody finishes 44-2 and is 116-8 heading into his senior year.
Cody is a 2x state placewinner. |
 |
 |
Craig Becker
State Champion
Craig reached the top of the mountain and earned the first state
title for the Becker family. Once Craig defeated his nemesis,
Riley Kreuzer of Muskego in OT on Thursday he dominated the final two
matches on his way to becoming Hartford's 15th state champion. He
notched a fall in the semi-finals and a 5-0 shutout of Port Washington's
Kevin Barber in the finals. Craig finished the year at 44-2 and
set a new Hartford and Wisconsin Little Conference record for victories
with a 160-13 mark. Craig is a 3x state placewinner. |
Christian Polega
2nd Place
The senior captain came to wrestle this weekend and polished off
an outstanding senior season finishing with the silver medal and a 40-2
record. Christian had a fall in the preliminaries, and a major
decision in the semis before losing a 3-1 decision to Neenah's Barker in
the final. His career record stands at 77-19. |
 |
 |
Jon Schmidt
2nd Place
Jon put an exclamation point on a great Oriole career with a trip
to the finals, losing 3-2 to Dane Thompson of Rapids. Jon had a
fall in the quarter finals and knocked off unbeaten Dan Laurent of
Manitowoc in the semifinals. Schmidt finished 44-2 on the year and
120-27 in his career. Jon is a 2x state placewinner. |

|
| |
|
In 1989, Hartford finished 2nd in the WIAA State
Tournament.
Accepting the trophy with Coach Don Kreuser
are senior Co-Captains
and
prep All-Americans Aaron Casetta and Dennis Hall.
The Orioles had finished 3rd the
year before.
