Philosophy

June 23rd - June 27th at Independence Park in Hartford.  The Power Behind the Bird Camp starts promptly at 1:00 and ends at 3:00 each day, Monday - Friday.  Different age groups come back at 6:30 and play until 8:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday.  The "Power Behind the Bird" Soccer Camp is a week of fun and challenging soccer .  The camp is designed to raise the level of soccer in the greater Hartford area.  Campers are broken down into age and skill appropriate groups for technical skill work.  The tactical side of the game is emphasized in older groups.  Campers come back at nights and play in games to try and execute the activities worked on in the morning.  Any aged soccer enthusiast, up to an incoming freshman in high school, may attend camp this camp.

Staff

The camp staff includes camp directors Jack De Selm, NSCAA Premier License and USSF Nationally Licensed Coach, and Tom Belfer, USSF National License.   Coach De Selm currently coaches the Varsity Boys at Hartford Union High School and  to assisted with the Cedarburg High School Girls program.  Currently he assists the girls varsity team at Homestead  High School.  Coach Belfer was the assistant coach for both boys and girls soccer at Cedarburg, and currently coaches and trains a number of select teams for the Cedarburg Soccer Club.   Additional staff will include present and past HUHS Varsity players.

Curriculum

The 2007 "Power Behind the Bird" curriculum was designed to emphasis the technical and tactical aspects of the 5 v. 5 small-sided game.  Monday's skills/tactics were 1 v1, Tuesday 2 v. 2, Wednesday 3 v. 3, Thursday 4 v. 4, and Friday 5 v. 5.  Night games are played as small sided soccer games with emphasis on the tactical portion of the game.

HUHS Super Camps

August 4 - August 8: Hartford Pre - Season Super Camp.  Soccer players from different high schools will be attending this team camp.  The camp runs from 5:00 - 7:15 p.m. each night that week and is meant to assist you in improving your technical and tactical skills.  Getting in shape while working with the soccer ball is one of our objectives.  Not only will you be playing and working with players from other high schools, you will also experience different coaches from the various schools in the area.

August 11 -August 15: Port Washington Super Camp.  The times are 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Justice Park in Port Washington.  The format is the same as the camp mentioned above.  Generally though, Juniors and Seniors attend this camp.  That is only a general guideline, as you are welcome to attend either camp, or both if you desire.

~ As they have in the past, the Hartford Sideliner and United Soccer Clubs will be sponsoring  soccer clinics and workshops this summer at Independence Park.  Dates and times have not yet been determined for 2006, but the cost of these clinics is already included in the membership fees for all Sideliner and United members.  Anybody who is not a Sideliner or United member is welcome to attend for a donation of $10. Please contact Coach De Selm for additional information regarding Sideliner/United clinics.
