As is the case in most Cinderella stories, the clock does strike midnight. The Hartford Oriole Varsity Reserve team fought valiantly in its final game of the season, but was denied the perfect season by the Germantown Warhawks in heartbreaking fashion, 12-6. The game was a defensive battle with neither team yielding much offense. The Oriole D proved to be excruciatingly stalwart in the second half surrendering only 1 first down. Ryan Katona, Bob McCaigue, and Brad Handel anchored the D in this one as Katona forced and recovered a fumble, McCaigue picked off a pass and Handel came away with a QB sack. The only Hartford score of the game came from senior RB Brian Wojciechowski. Hartford finishes the year with a 4-1 record. The loss does nothing to diminish what was a fine season by the Varsity Reserve team that dominated opponents all year long and showcased some great play from the Seniors and provided a glimpse at the future of Hartford football by the underclassmen's outstanding play. Great job guys, congratulations to Coach Jason Jobst, Coach Andy Fehring, and the entire Hartford Varsity Reserve Squad on a season to remember!
