The Hartford Varsity Reserve squad got off to a tremendous start to the 2006 season as they dispatched of the Mukwanago VR team 22-6. The much anticipated annual opener was played in a cold rain storm, but Hartford quickly heated things up behind quarterback Pat Kenealy who connected on three touchdown passes for the day. Hartford opened the scoring on an old Oriole favorite, the "hitch and pitch" as Mike Steuer caught a well thrown Kenealy pass then shoveled it to Andrew Chapman who then took it to pay dirt.
Although Hartford featured a potent offensive arsenal, the defense was not eager to be outdone. Josh Tucker and Luke Vogds picked off Mukwanago passes and Josh Cesar brought down a defender in the end zone for an Indian safety. The defensive effort was spearheaded by the leadership of Kenny Miller who was outstanding in leading a stalwart Oriole squad.
