The Oriole Varsity reserve again showed a knack for making the big play en route to a 26-12 victory over Germantown on Monday at Gib Mahr Field. The Warhawks took an early 12-6 lead in the game and looked poised to hand Hartford its first loss of the season, enter Kenny Miller and Jamil Ashley. Miller, the senior linebacker who has anchored the Varsity Reserve defense all year put a bone jarring hit on the Germantown quarterback as he released the football causing an errant pass. Ashley capitalized by snatching the wayward football and returning it 50 yards for the game tying score. Pat Kenealy, who tossed three touchdowns on the day, found Ryan Giesen for the go ahead two point conversion. This momentum shift propelled Hartford as they scored the game's final 12 points including a thirty yard touchdown pass from Kenealy to Scott Kettner to seal the deal. The touchdown was Kettner's second of the day. Kenealy also found Luke Benser earlier for a score. The defensive highlight was Miller and Ashley's big play, but Jordan Hamilton and Josh Brandmeier each had critical interceptions to secure the Hartford win. The Varsity Reserve squad moves to 5-0 on the year and looks to complete a perfect season next week as they host West Bend West at 5:00 p.m.
