Boys Cross Country is a challenging, yet
rewarding sport. You will meet new friends and be in top physical
condition. You will train together as a team with others of
similar ability. The races are 5K (3.1miles) long. No one
gets cut from the team and everyone participates in every race.
Most of the races are on Thursday, Friday or Saturday on beautiful
scenic park trails in southeastern Wisconsin. Some meets have a
race for just the freshman, but the standard meet consists of a JV and
Varsity race. Practice consists of weight room training, running
on school grounds, various routes through town, and one day a week going
to Pike Lake to train and go for a refreshing swim afterward. As
you get into the season, you'll notice yourself getting stronger, more
confident and faster. Working hard and pushing your teammates each
day in practice will help everyone to be in peak condition by season's
end and for each of you to run personal best times. Running is
something you can do well beyond your high school and college years and
will keep you in shape for life?

Girls Cross Country is a great
opportunity to improve your level of fitness, meet new friends, and
enjoy the benefits of learning a lifelong activity. Everyone
competes in the 2/5 mile races held on Thursday, Friday or Saturday
beginning Labor day Weekend and continuing through the end of
October. Cross Country is a challenging sport because not only do
you race other girls form different schools, but you also race the clock
trying to beat your own personal best time.
Season
highlights over the past few years have included a weekend trip to the
Dells, training with runners who have competed in the Olympics, and a
season video that is both memorable and inspirational. To find out
more about girls cross country, visit our web site at http://www.huhs.org/xcountry.
Practice starts in mid-August and we would love to see you there!

Freshman Football is open to anyone who
wishes to accept the challenge. No formal cutting of players takes
place. At the freshmen level of football we stress
participation. In order to accomplish this, we have two teams, and
each team plays a 7 game schedule. Everyone is involved and
practices start early in August.
Sophomores and Varsity; are coached by
varsity position coaches. Based on players ability, they will be
placed on the sophomore team (restricted to 9th & 10th grade)
or the varsity team. A varsity reserve schedule is in place to
ensure playing time and development for all varsity players.

junior varsity and freshman levels. The teams consist of 10 to 15
players. We compete in the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference, one of
the top rated high school conferences in the country, so play is fast
and furious for every match. We teach basic volleyball skills at
the freshmen level and push our players to the limit at the varsity
level. Practices begin in mid-August and play continues until
early November. Matches are held on Tuesday and Thursday
evenings.

The freshman Boy's Basketball team plays
a full conference schedule plus occasional non-conference games
depending on what can be scheduled. A roster of 15-20 boys are
selected to fill out the squad. The boys program has separate
junior varsity, and varsity squads which freshmen can be moved to if
their ability warrants. The season begins in the middle of
November and runs until the end of February.

Girls' Basketball begins in the first
week of November and lasts through the 3rd week of February for the JV
and freshmen teams. A roster of 15 girls are selected to fill out
the squads. As at all levels in the girls' program, the freshmen
and JV teams enjoy a great deal of success. The 2002 'Lady
Orioles' were conference champs and completed a 18-2 regular
season. The varsity has traditionally enjoyed a good
representation from every grade level on its team each season. Go
for it!!

Hartford boosts one of the top wrestling
programs in the State of Wisconsin. This tradition is built upon
hard work and commitment on the part of wrestlers and coaches. Our
practices begin in early November and the season ends in February.
However, the varsity continues to complete in the WIAA Tournament series
which culminates with the State Team Tournament. The freshman team
practices early every night after school. No one gets cut from
wrestling. Most wrestlers compete in 15-20 matches on both the
freshman and JV levels. It is possible to wrestle on the varsity
or JV as a freshman! No prior experience is necessary. All
that is required is a willingness to work hard and a championship
attitude!

The Baseball Program has 3 levels of
competition; freshman, JV, and varsity. Each team usually carries
15 or 16 players. We are members of the Little Ten Conference,
which is one of the most competitive conferences in the State. We
have always had very competitive teams and will continue to do so in the
future. High school baseball can be a fun and rewarding
experience. To be successful you should start at the freshman level
or earlier in order to develop necessary skills. Give baseball a
try. You may be surprised at your abilities! Practices start
during the middle of March.

The Girls' Soccer season runs from
mid-March until the end of May. The school has varsity, JV and
freshman girls soccer teams. The team has had successful seasons
primarily due to the willingness of its participants to practice hard
both during the girls' season and throughout the off season. We
are looking forward to another successful year with many skilled and
dedicated athletes entering and returning to the program.

Fast-pitch Softball is a spring activity
offered to female athletes at all age levels. At present we have
varsity, JV, and freshmen teams. In the fast-pitch softball program,
players have the opportunity to participate in a highly successful sports
program with a "winning tradition" while have some "spring
fun" at the same time. Our varsity team has participated in
(and won) the State Tournament and has also won a number of league
championships. Participation in softball is not only enjoyable, but
also aids in developing skills you may wish to use during the summer
and/or in years to come. In the process of building a winning
tradition in softball, we hope that as many of our incoming female
athletes as possible choose to take part, as we work toward excellence and
enjoyment on the field. Practices start during the middle of March
and continue to the end of May.

Boys' Tennis begins on the last week of
March through the first week in June. Boys who come out for tennis
need a commitment to practice, a hard work ethic, and to improve on
learning the sport's skills and strategies. Boys can learn how to
play singles and doubles. Tennis is an excellent lifetime
sport. We offer a great tennis facility, summer lessons, drills,
and indoor open gym to prepare the players for the tennis season.
We offer a varsity and a junior varsity team. We do not cut!
Positions on the team are based on ability. It is possible for a
freshman to make the varsity team. Let's make tennis your game of
choice!

TRACK and FIELD is a sport that has an
event for everyone! There are 17 events to choose from:
sprinting, hurdles, distance running, jumping (high, long and triple)
and throwing (shotput and discus). There is a varsity and JV
squad. Every year we have several freshmen who earn varsity
letters!! It is the best sport to complement any fall or winter
sport you may have been in. Several athletes compete at the state

Students who have an interest in sports
and medicine may combine the two and volunteer as a Hartford Student
Athletic Trainer. Student trainers assist the certified athletic
trainer in the day to day operation of the athletic training
program. This involves the prevention, treatment and
rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Participation coincides with
the fall, winter, and spring sports seasons - so a commitment does not
need to be for the entire year. An application process is followed
with only enthusiastic and responsible students chosen. Student
trainers are eligible for athletic awards and may qualify for the
Student Athletic Trainer Scholarship to be awarded upon graduation.
