A Guideline of Helpful Hints to Writing Your Position Paper

 

A good position paper is structured in the following form, although this for does not have to be followed exactly.

 

I)                   Structure

A)    Introduction

-   the object of the introduction is to give an overview of the topic, a good introduction will help prove that you understand the topic fully

-   the introduction should also state the main problem

B)    Paragraph #1

-   the key thing to address in your first paragraph is the major points of interest to your countries, what aspects of the topic interests your country most

C)    Paragraph #2

-   the key thing to address in the second paragraph is possible solutions, these solutions should pertain to the points of interest that you addressed in paragraph one

II)                 What to keep in mind

A)    How would your country stand

-   While researching your position paper pay close attention to your countries allies and enemies

-   find what bloc* your country is in and begin to rationalize like a representative from one that bloc, what does that bloc produce, e.g. oil, do they trade with the United States? China?

III)              Suggestions

-   refrain from waiting to the last minute, a position paper should be written, and revised multiple times

-   find additional information on your topic and your nation’s view, read and HILITE it, bring it to the conference have a teacher read and edit your paper before submitting it
